ZTE Axon 7 A2017U update fixes Blueborne and KRACK Vulnerabilities

The ZTE Axon 7 A2017U is a sleeper hit on our forums. Its XDA forum is home to a vibrant enthusiast community, but not every Axon 7 user is willing to run unofficial software on their devices. For those of you still running the stock MiFavor software, then you’ll be happy to know that a new update is rolling out tonight that brings much needed security patches for some rather nasty security vulnerabilities.

The update brings the security patch level of the Axon 7 to December. This includes the September patches which fixed the Bluetooth exploit known as Blueborne as well as the November patches which fixed the WiFi WPA2 protocol vulnerability known as KRACK.

Those are the most notable changes in this release, though ZTE also says that they are updating Hiya—the integrated service which is used for caller profile, spam detection, and call blocking—to version 6.3.3 with improved call blocking and protection.

This security update is probably not what you were expecting to hear about since the Android Oreo release is right around the corner. Many of you on our forums probably run custom ROMs such as LineageOS which have already patched the Blueborne and KRACK vulnerabilities, so this news probably isn’t too exciting. Still, for those of you who are on the Android Nougat-based MiFavor software, you can now use Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity without fear of exploitation.

Let’s hope that the ZTE Axon M and the rumored ZTE Axon 9 coming later this year also receive timely security updates throughout their lifetime.
