Is Esha Gupta dating an 18 YO Boy? These Cozy Pics Suggest So

Esha Gupta is definitely an Internet Sensation. She keeps on amusing her fans by posting glamorous pictures of herself on Instagram. She came into much limelight at the time of the release of Baadshaho when she posted nude pictures of herself on Instagram after which she gained many followers and much severe backlash.

From her Instagram account, it seems that she is dating an 18-year-old boy. She has been taking trips to Dubai to meet this youngster and has been uploading pictures from time to time. We could have ignore her pictures, and her captions of ‘My Love’, but how can we ignore these cosy pictures?

Have a look yourself:

Not only the fan pages, the 32-year-old actress herself posted the picture on Instagram and referred him as “my love” and “my one and only”. On his 18th birthday, she shared a picture getting a kiss from the boy on the forehead. The caption read, “Happy 18th to my one n only. My baby boy I love you the most, please always stay this happy child that you are. I’ve always got your back..”

On Christmas again, she shared a picture with the boy.

In another picture on Jan 3, she wrote, ‘Back with my love’.

The 18-year-old youngster is Aly Raza Beig, son of Raza Beig. His family owns the fashion brand named Splash, which is endorsed by Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif among others.

However, when Esha Gupta got trolled for her cosy pictures with the 18-year-old boy, she replied with a furious message that reads, “To all the uneducated dumb dolts… he’s my baby… not my bf you sick minded a**h***s.”

Well, we could have got convinced if these weren’t the cosy pictures. We wonder what her baby means! And why would a sister get cosy with her cousin?

Are you convinced with her justification?

WhatsApp hits 1.5 billion monthly users. $19B? Not so bad.

Facebook’s $19 billion acquisition of WhatsApp sounds smarter and smarter. CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced on the Q4 2017 earnings call today that WhatsApp now has 1.5 billion users and sees 60 billion messages sent per day. That’s compared to 1.3 billion monthly users and 1 billion daily active users in July.

The massive growth makes Facebook’s choice to pay more than $19 billion to acquire WhatsApp look prescient. At the time in 2014, WhatsApp had just 450 million monthly active users and 315 million daily active users.

In a slight to Snapchat, Zuckerberg also noted that Instagram and WhatsApp are the No. 1 and No. 2 most popular Story-sharing products, referring to those apps’ clones of Snapchat Stories. Each now each has 300 million daily active users, compared to 178 million on Snapchat as a whole.

People thought Facebook was crazy to pay such a high price. But messaging is the most critical and time-consuming activity on mobile. And if Facebook didn’t buy WhatsApp, Google probably would have, and messaging would be a two-horse race. Instead, Facebook is massively dominant everywhere but China, between the 1.3 billion-user Messenger and 1.5 billion-user WhatsApp.

Now Facebook is finally getting serious about monetizing WhatsApp with the recent launch of the WhatsApp for Business app. Facebook plans to charge business owners for additional commerce, customer service or broadcasting tools. And with such a massive audience, merchants will be clamoring for them.

Lexip’s joystick-mouse combo is a strange but promising hybrid

While at CES I try to avoid getting bogged down by dozens of random gadgets, and this time I mostly succeeded — but the mouse reviewer in me was intrigued by Lexip’s new gaming mouse that’s also a sort of floating joystick. It’s a strange but cool idea, and although the learning curve is high, I can see some hardcore gamers and productivity fiends getting a lot of use out of it.

Lexip is running a Kickstarter right now to fund the mouse, and has already tripled its modest goal, but the company was kind enough to send a pre-production version of the device to me for an early look.

The basic idea is very simple: What if you took a perfectly good gaming mouse and sort of mounted it on top of a very flat joystick? Theoretically, you would get the best of both worlds: the absolute x-y movement of the mouse, plus the relative, analog movement of a joystick.

And that’s more or less what the Lexip does. But as you might expect, it takes a bit of getting used to.

The mouse portion is quite good; I’m very picky when it comes to mouse shapes (I use a Logitech G500s… since you asked) and found the Lexip perfectly comfortable, if slightly small. There’s an analog stick on the side, a nice touch for space sims, and three configurable buttons in addition to the usual left, right and scroll button. The sensor seemed solid; no jitters or problems with my mousing surface.

There’s no thumb shelf, and I would have preferred the button paddles reached farther toward the front of the mouse, but neither is really possible because of the joystick portion of things.

To that end, the whole top of the mouse is essentially a giant analog stick; you can tilt it in any direction and it acts just like a second analog input. So in a flight sim or space game you could be looking around the cockpit or directing the guns with the mouse itself, yawing and rolling with the full-mouse joystick and controlling thrust and strafing with the little joystick. Pretty cool, right?

That kind of control also could be useful to artists, 3D and otherwise. Working in 3D means a lot of rotating on various axes, zooming in and out and so on. Having two analog sticks on the mouse itself might allow an artist to replace a handful of commonly used keyboard shortcuts or mouse gestures.

Speaking of which, the analog movements can be mapped like mouse buttons; I set up mine to have the tilts mean forward and back in a browser, plus scrolling up and down. It didn’t take long for these movements to become pretty natural, though I should say I also triggered them accidentally a bunch of times. (You can disable gestures for any application, but I was too lazy.)

The configuration tool could use a lot of work, though. Razer and Logitech have been honing their tools for years, allowing complex macros and interesting integrations. Lexip’s is workmanlike, lacking options pro gamers and power users might want. That’s relatively easy to fix with updates, of course, but the DPI selection method and inability to create a “double-click” button made it hard to keep the Lexip as a daily driver.

It also required something of a lighter touch than I’m used to; I tend to rest most of the weight of my hand on my mouse, apparently favoring the left side, since the Lexip tended to activate the “left” gesture now and then (certainly my fault and not a bug, just saying). It also seemed to me that the left side was easier to depress, but that may just be how I perceive it. (Speaking of left sides, a left-handed version is forthcoming.)

And you’ll need to pay close attention to your grip, because of course if you tilt forward by pressing down with your index and middle fingers, you’ll click while you tilt and cause all kinds of chaos. The extra non-button space on the front is meant to alleviate that, and it does, but I had to shift the position of my fingers to get a solid surface on which to push down. Not a deal breaker, just something you’d have to get used to.

I asked if the version I have will differ in any way from the version backers will receive, and was told only minor aesthetic changes will be made.

Overall I think this is a fun, smart device and one that many people might find useful. Of course, with even early-bird prices starting above $100, it isn’t cheap. But you probably already know if this is something you’re willing to give a shot. It’s a cool idea and it works, with some small caveats, so order with confidence.

SVF partners with Srijit’s Matchcut to co-produce three feature films and a web series

Mumbai, 31 January 2018: SVF and eminent film director Srijit Mukherji’s Matchcut Productions recently announced plans to co-produce three Bengali films and a web series in the coming years.

These three films and the web series will be over and above the three Srijit directorials –Uma, Ek Je Chilo Raja and Kakababur Protyaborton-already announced during “SVF Stories 2018”.

The untitled film is based on writer Shankar’s famed novel “Chowringhee” and will star the biggest names in the Bengali film industry including Prosenjit Chatterjee, Abir Chatterjee, Jisshu Sengupta, Anjan Dutt, Jaya Ehsan and Mamata Shankar.

Speaking about this development, SVF co-founder and Director, Shrikant Mohta, said, ‘’Tollywood has no dearth of talent and Srijit is one of the finest we have. Already a National Award winning director, Srijit also has immense potential as a producer. We at SVF want to be part of not only his personal growth but also give the platform to him to find fresh talent and tell more exciting stories.”

Srijit, who made acclaimed films like Autograph, Rajkahini and Zulfiqar, said, “I consider myself extremely fortunate to be associated with SVF and owe most of the success to Shrikant and Moni. I am sure that SVF’s technical knowhow and infrastructural support will ensure that all my future endeavours as a director or producer will be even more successful.”

Oppo A71 (2018) launches with Snapdragon 450, “AI Beauty Recognition Technology”

The Oppo A71 was quietly announced last September, but it looks like it was a short-lived model. That’s because today the Oppo A71 (2018) became official in Pakistan, ahead of a probably imminent launch in India.

The A71 (2018) is very similar to its predecessor, but packs in a couple of improvements (and, oddly, 1GB less RAM). It has the same 5.2″ 720p display, 16GB of expandable storage, dual-SIM functionality, 13 MP f/2.2 main camera, 5 MP f/2.4 selfie shooter, and 3,000 mAh battery as the original A71. It’s even got the exact same dimensions as that, measuring 148.1 x 73.8 x 7.6 mm, and weighs the same 137g.

What’s new is the Snapdragon 450 chipset, replacing the old MediaTek MT6750. Qualcomm’s SoC comes with the Adreno 506 GPU and a CPU with eight Cortex-A53 cores clocked at up to 1.8 GHz, and should enable an improvement in app starting speed of 12.5% on average compared to last year’s A71.

This chip is paired with 2GB of RAM in the Oppo A71 (2018), and the phone runs ColorOS 3.2 based on Android 7.1 Nougat. It’s an ever so slightly newer version of the UI overlay compared to the ColorOS 3.1 featured in the original.

That means you can use Oppo’s “AI Beauty Recognition Technology”, which is “based on a global image database that serves as an experienced photographer, who knows your beauty and will offer the most suitable beautify effect for you”, according to the official website.

The Oppo A71 (2018) will be offered in gold and black. It’s priced at PKR 19,899 in Pakistan, which at the moment means $179 or €144.

MIT uses Lego to prototype low-cost micro pumps

Lego bricks (or, if you’re not a pedant, Legos) are highly precise and highly consistent plastic objects. Anywhere you go in the world the Lego is the same. That means that scientists at MIT can use these little sole stabbers to create very precise scientific systems.

Their first tests involve creating a microfluid pump and sorter using basic Lego parts. Because they can trust Lego bricks to be consistent around the world, they can easily create complex microfluidics kits that can be assembled almost anywhere.

“You could then build a microfluidic system similarly to how you would build a LEGO castle — brick by brick,” said lead author Crystal Owens, a graduate student in MIT’s Department of Mechanical Engineering. “We hope in the future, others might use LEGO bricks to make a kit of microfluidic tools.”

The project does require a little modification to the bricks including running fine channels through them. However, because each brick and panel is so precise you don’t need much more than a drill and some tubing to prototype a working microfluidics lab. Think of it as 3D printing with toys.

“Over the years, I’ve had peripheral exposure to the field of microfluidics and the fact that prototyping microfluidic devices is often a difficult, time-consuming, resource-intensive process,” said Anastasios John Hart, associate professor at MIT.

Rahul Gandhi wore a jacket worth Rs 70,000, BJP and Tweeps Troll him in Style

Congress President Rahul Gandhi always manages to be in news, but unfortunately for all the wrong reasons. While he should be an icon for the population of India, he is, instead, mocked and laughed at all the time. He is currently in Meghalaya to start the election campaign for upcoming elections in the state.

30th Jan marks the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. And therefore, a musical program called “Celebration of Peace” was organised of which Rahul Gandhi too was a part.

Rahul attended the program wearing a black jacket worth Rs 70,000. He did not know that he would again be trolled badly.

Have a closer looker at his expensive jacket.

Immediately, Meghalaya unit of  BJP took use of the opportunity and did whole research on his jacket. On their  official Twitter handle, they posted the picture of Rahul Gnadhi from the event and paired it with  original jacket and price and wrote,“So OfficeOfRG , soot(pun intended!)-boot ki sarkar with ‘black’ money fleeced from Meghalayan State exchequer by rampant corruption? Instead of singing away our woes, you could have given a report card of your inefficient govt in Meghalaya! Your indifference mocks us!”

This jacket is from Burberry, a British luxury fashion brand and its cost on the website of Bloomingdales is approx Rs 70,000

This wasn’t an out of the blue target. in fact, it came out as a reaction on Rahul’s jibe at the Modi government with the comment of “suit-boot ki sarkar” which he made when PM Modi wore a monogrammed suit for his meeting with Barack Obama, the President of the USA in 2015. The cost of PM Modi’s suit was reported to be Rs. 11 lakhs and it was auctioned for Rs. 4.31 crores.

In no time, Rahul became the target of Tweeps. Have a look at some tweets:

Someone has rightly said, ‘As you sow, so shall you reap’. And here I recall another saying in Hindi- ‘Jiske ghar sheeshe k hote hai, vo doosre k gharon par patthar nhi phenkte’.

Do you agree?

Polymail looks to unify business email tools into a single web app

If you’re more of a Gmail power user (or even semi-power user) and other email services geared toward work, you’ve probably installed plenty of plugins like Rapportive to make your job a little bit easier.

And while it’s all fine to try to pull together a suite of plugins to make that a little bit easier, a startup called Polymail is hoping to rope that all into a single hub that will suit the needs of marketers and other businesses without having to piece together all of the bits from external tools. Polymail, which was previously a Mac app, said it’s launching a web version today as it looks to enter some kind of parity with those services and move beyond just a niche application that might have some use cases.

“The first iteration was as an email client, which we knew had to be a native desktop experience,” co-founder Brandon Foo said. “Our long-term vision for Polymail has always been to extend the inbox into a business and team communication platform, and so to achieve that we had become cross-platform for both Windows and Mac users. By far the biggest driver was the demand we’ve seen from Windows and PC users since we launched Polymail for Mac. There was also the need for users to access Polymail from any device without having to install a desktop app.”

Polymail started off as a Mac app, but by expanding to being a web app, it sets it up for a wider audience accustomed to typical email services like GMail and other email marketing tools. The service brings together the kinds of products you have come to expect as a marketer or salesperson at a company, like tracking engagement with email and calendar functions. While born as a native app, most email users — whether that’s for typical email use cases or actual marketing tools — are probably used to working through a web interface so they can flip between platforms whenever they need, which seemed like it would initially hamper Polymail’s potential growth.

“We’ve seen quite a few email-related tools over the past few years, but we believe the market is still highly fragmented,” Foo said. “Businesses still have to rely on multiple point solutions from several different vendors to solve the problem they need, and in many cases, they don’t integrate well and end up costing a lot. With Polymail, companies can unify their entire email and sales communication workflow with one platform.”

There’s still something to be said about focusing on simplicity, which has led to the success of plenty of Silicon Valley darlings like Slack. Instead of putting together a patchwork service loaded up with multiple tools, some businesses may find it easier to just go to a single service that picks all the best and most useful ones and bundles them into a clean interface. That’s kind of the promise of Slack — which adds new features in a drip-drip-drip way as it at times hesitates to try to move away from the core simple experience.

But at the same time, there is definitely a graveyard of startups that have tried to re-invent the experience of email. While you’ve probably heard more about them on the consumer side, like Sparrow or Mailbox, the point is that it’s hard to rip users away from an experience they are very familiar with. That’s obviously a big challenge for Foo and Polymail, but the startup has focused on a business-first model from day one and that’s what will help it potentially survive that early hump of getting users.

“All of the email apps that were acquired and shut down were consumer-focused and never developed a strong business model,” he said. “Polymail is a software-as-a-service company first — our vision is to make Polymail the platform for external business communication, just as how Slack has become the platform for internal business communication. Email is the most relevant form of external business communication today, so that’s the starting point for us, but our platform will continue to expand to serve the needs of our customers.”

Polymail came out of Y Combinator’s summer 2016 batch. The company says it has 2,800 customers since launching in December 2016, including professionals and teams at Uber.

Apple could let you run iPad apps on your Mac

Apple is working hard on the next major versions of its operating systems — macOS, iOS, tvOS and watchOS. While iOS is the big elephant in the room, the most intriguing new feature could be for macOS. According to reports from Bloomberg and Axios, Apple will let you run iPad apps.

Yesterday, Axios first reported that Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering Craig Federighi announced a revised plan for iOS 12. Apple usually unveils the new version of iOS at its WWDC developer conference in June. It then goes through a few months of beta testing and gets released in September.

And this time, Axios has heard that Apple is delaying some features to work on quality issues. Many customers have been complaining about bugs in iOS 11, such as weird autocorrect bugs, messages arriving out of order, the Calculator app not calculating properly and more.

That’s why some rumored features have been pushed back to iOS 13 in 2019. Those features include a home screen redesign, CarPlay improvements, Mail and Photos updates.

Instead, you can expect a rock-solid iOS 12. There will still be new features, but not as many as expected. iOS 12 could feature better parental controls, a FaceTime update. There could be more augmented reality features too.

Some of those delays will also affect the next macOS update, such as the update to the Photos app for instance. But Bloomberg first reported that Apple is still on track to let you use iOS apps on your Mac. Axios confirmed those plans, saying that iPad apps in particular should run on macOS.

This could represent a huge change for the Mac platform with a big number of new apps hitting the Mac App Store. It’s still unclear whether Apple will optimize the user interface of those apps on the Mac. Using a touch screen is very different from using a mouse. But iPad app developers can expect to reach a lot more users.

Online social networks can help fight social anxiety

Ever since online social networks were first created, people have wondered why they’re popular and how they affect users. Researchers, practitioners and social commentators have expressed concern that they reduce more meaningful face-to-face interaction, leaving users depressed and lonely. However, new research that I have conducted together with marketing professor Jonah Berger suggests that social networks’ dissimilarities to more traditional communication methods can actually help some people connect better.

Proponents have long touted social networks’ ability to connect distant friends and relatives. When a user posts a tweet or a Facebook status update, it is visible to a group of people, whether that is all of a user’s contacts or some subset such as fellow alumni of a school or residents of a particular neighborhood.

Our research shows that the quasi-personal nature of these kind of posts, which are written for people who know the writer and can respond, but which at the same time are shared more widely, can make connecting with others less threatening for people who experience social anxiety.

How microblogs can aid communication

People feel a need for social interaction, especially when they feel sad, stressed or troubled. Connecting with friends or family can help soothe negative feelings. But for some people, reaching out in person can feel daunting. People who are anxious about social interactions might wonder, “What if they don’t want to talk to me?” or “What if I’m bothering them?”

In our research, we found that sharing via tweets or Facebook posts – more broadly called “microblogging” – can alleviate these concerns. This method of communication, unique to social media, allows people to reach out to a large audience without having to direct their message to any one person who might be annoyed or busy. As a result, the person posting may have reduced anxiety about initiating social interaction.

Accordingly, we found that people who felt apprehensive or anxious about social interaction were actually more likely to post or tweet on social media sites. In one experiment, half of the participants were asked to write about a time they were at a party and felt anxious about interacting with others. The other half were asked to write about a neutral topic.

We then gave participants the opportunity to use their favorite social network for a few minutes, and afterward we asked what they did while online. People who had written about their social anxiety were more likely to microblog (tweet or post a status update) than those who had written about a neutral topic.

Diving deeper into the results

Importantly, our follow-up studies show that while experiencing social apprehension or anxiety increases microblogging, it decreases face-to-face sharing. Indeed, when we asked people about how they preferred to communicate with others, the ones prone to experience social anxiety were more likely to choose microblogging over reaching out face to face.

But microblogging is not the only way social networks let users connect with friends and relatives. Users can also send direct messages, which again do not require in-person interaction. Importantly however, unlike microblogs, they are usually directed at an individual, rather than a wider friend group. When we explored people’s interest in reaching out via direct message, we learned that experiencing social apprehension does not increase direct messaging and that the effect of social apprehension on sharing was unique to posting status updates or tweeting.

This finding tells us that the undirected nature of microblogs is key for socially anxious people, allowing them a new way to reach out to friends when they might not feel comfortable doing so otherwise.

Sharing via microblogging can increase well-being

Then we wondered: If some people feel more comfortable posting on social networks than they do directly interacting with friends and family members, might their way of using microblogging be a way to help them feel better?

Preliminary evidence from our research suggests that writing to others who might respond – such as posting on online social networks – can help upset people feel better. In a laboratory study, we induced negative emotions by having participants take a brief multiple-choice test, and then by telling them they had not performed very well – regardless of how well they had actually performed.

Then we split the participants into four groups and asked each to write something. One group was asked to write about office products so as to serve as a neutral baseline comparison group. Members of the other three groups were asked to write about their emotions: One group’s members were told their writing would be private. One group was told that what they wrote would be shared with someone who would not be able to respond. The last group was told their writing would be shared with someone who could respond.

After this writing exercise, we measured each participant’s well-being by asking them about how good, happy and relaxed they felt. The results showed that writing to someone who might respond helped people heal their negative feelings: Members of that group reported greater well-being. This healing did not result from writing in general, writing privately about emotions or even telling someone else about their feelings.

The potential for someone to respond made people feel better – even if nobody actually did reply. Our research did not identify exactly why the benefit occurred without receiving an actual response, but it could be related to others’ findings that anticipating the potential of something occurring can be particularly appealing.

This highlights the different ways that social networks can offer people unique and valuable communications options that don’t exist offline or in other online environments.

Dodgy Downloads – Signs to Look Out For

The internet’s great, isn’t it? Infinite variety and everything you want is just a click away – what’s not to love?! Well, as many of us have experience first hand, sadly all that glitters is not necessarily gold on the World Wide Web, so it pays to be cautious – especially if you’re looking to download software or any other type of file that’s easily available.

Free downloads are often used by cybercriminals as proverbial gingerbread houses to lure in unsuspecting internet users. However, once the files have been downloaded and executed, their insidious true nature as malware is revealed, and the security of the user’s computer is compromised.

The ability to assess the legitimacy of a source before you download software is a crucial skill to possess in the modern IT landscape.

Protect yourself from dubious downloads with our handy guide to staying safe online.

Check and double check before you hit install.

Dig a Little Deeper

Many sites from which you can download software have a comments section. Previous users will often leave a comment to inform other users as to the quality of downloads. Take a moment to peruse the comments and see what the community is saying.

If there is no comments section, it’s usually very easy to find developer information. Have a little look around the site until you find the developer name and company details. You can then Google the company in question and see if they are reputable. If they are a regular proliferator of malware, they will likely be a topic of discussion on various IT forums.

Use a Trusted Software Download Website

At the end of the day, the best way to avoid ending up with dodgy files is to only download software from a trusted source. FileHippo has an enormous library of free software download options which have all be thoroughly vetted.

Your first port of call should be to download one of the robust antivirus packages from FileHippo. That way, all software will be scanned for malicious content giving you further protection should you accidentally download the wrong thing.

Please let us know in the comments if you’ve had any run-ins with dodgy downloads, and any important lessons you’ve learned as a result.

Samsung now making chips for Bitcoin mining hardware

Even Samsung’s foundries have been roped into making Bitcoin mining hardware now. The design for the ASIC (Application-Specific Integrated Circuit) was completed last year and it went into mass production this month, according to The Bell. These ASIC chips are headed to an unnamed company in China.

An analyst from Samsung Securities stated that producing ASICs takes up only a small portion of the capacity of the company’s foundries. So this shouldn’t affect the production of other chips.

Samsung now making chips for Bitcoin mining hardware

Still, this is a win for Samsung. For example, Bitmain (one of largest makers of Bitcoin mining hardware) fabs its AntMiner chips over at TSMC (based on its 16nm process). Samsung did not say which node is being used for its Bitcoin chips.

The company also started mass producing GDDR6 chips recently, which would be a boon for mining GPU-based cryptocurrencies (mining Bitcoin on a GPU is a lost cause, but it’s the most popular option for Ethereum).

Hushme: A Smart Voice Masking Headset For Making Private Calls In Public Places !

Sometimes talking private talks in public is quite embarrassing and sometimes people avoid important talks because they are in public because sometimes unintentionally we speak so loud that we may disturb people around us. The same thing happened with Roman Sakun, the founder of Hushme.

In March 2015, Roman Sakun was with his friends in a cafe. A girl at the cafe had to make a Skype call, so she put on earphones, which immediately made her talk louder. As a result, everyone started to stare and unintentionally tap into the conversation. Though no one complained, she felt uncomfortable and decided to cut off the conversation.

This incident gave Roman Sakun idea for his tech Hushme. The idea was to provide a tech which allows people to make private talks without disturbing others and privately.

Roman Sakun teamed up with Andrey Levchuk, Konstantin Shevchenko, Vladymyr Khyliuk, and Yaroslav Romashko to start Hushme. The team collaborated with ARTKB, which is a hardware product development bureau, with offices in Ukraine, China, and the US.

Apart from the normal headset mode, Hushme has two modes: passive and active. In the normal headset mode, Hushme connects to the smartphone via Bluetooth and you can use it as hands-free headset while speaking on the phone or listening to music.

In the passive voice muffling mode, Hushme is locked over the mouth, using a magnetic coupling. With high tech mechanism inside, it makes sure that the sound does not go out and only you can see and talk to the person on opposite side.

Hushme uses an app to synchronize with your smartphone, which enables you to choose masking sounds from the library, upload your customized sounds, adjust volume, etc. You can choose from rain, wind, ocean and even R2D2 and Minions.

The tech firm plan to launch production in April and dispatch the first lot to their backers – they have more than 600 pre-orders on crowdfunding platforms. The devices will be manufactured in China. They are also planning to launch it in platforms like Amazon. We wish them good luck for their start-up.

OnePlus’s Open Beta program tends to see updates more frequently than the stable channel, which gives the team time to test new features and squash bugs. Beta updates tend to focus on flashy new features, but the stable updates are much more refined. Since most of the people who own a OnePlus smartphone are on a stable build of OxygenOS, the company tests them much more thoroughly.

OnePlus says OxygenOS 5.0.2 will roll out to a small percentage of users starting today, and begin to roll out more broadly in a few days.

Haq Se review: A beautiful deja vu of Kahiin Toh Hoga

Starring: Rajeev Khandelwal, Surveen Chawla, Parul Gulati, Nikessha, Rukshar Rehman, Simone Singh, Pavail Gulati and others.
Directed by: Ken Ghosh.

Foreword

Ekta Kapoor’s ALT Balaji, a homegrown streaming platform, has been constantly trying to bring in revolution through a series of debatable concepts. The curators are trying their best to evoke discussion around not-so-spoken topics like ‘women in the army’ through Test Case, ‘homosexuality’ in Romil & Juggal, ‘feminism’ through Dev DD and the latest to have joined the list is Haq Se.

Haq Se is a beautiful series set in the scenic valleys of Kashmir. Earlier titled as Mirza Sisters, the narrative is about four sisters from the Mirza family, whose head is out in a war. Meher, Jannat, Rabiyah and Amal are four sisters with their individualities, living with their mother. Adapted by Louisa May Alcott’s classic drama LITTLE WOMEN , the narrative revolves around Meher’s journey to find foothold in her career while struggling with her family issues and her arrogant yet enamoring senior Dr. Naushad Rizvi.  It also, takes the viewers through the expedition of Jannat’s rebellious attitude to bring change in her hometown, and the struggle of younger sisters Rabiyah and Amal to find their identities amidst the teenagers. The story picks up when the sister’s aunt gets indulged into a romantic affair with a political personality. When the affair becomes a topic of discussion through media, what all the family goes through forms the rest of the story.

What’s good?

For me, the best part of the original is Jannat Mirza played by newbie Parul Gulati. The character is intrinsically sketched and has the much required depth. While there are few characters that are under baked, Jannat has turned out modestly and Parul has utilized it to the core. The cinematography is another feather and one of the best that I’ve seen in the recent times. Each frame looks artistically beguiling and resembles a painting. One will be mesmerized and left in awe while watching the series. Pavail Gulati, who plays Tabish is another actor who catches your attention amidst a stellar cast. His stint in Ittefaq was quite succinct, however here he has got the chance to unravel his knack of acting.

Coming to the leads, Surveen Chawla does justice to whatever she has been given for her character Meher. Rajeev Khandelwal’s Naushad is a reminder of his extremely famous Sujal Garewal from Kahiin Toh Hoga. Rajeev and Surveen’s chemistry is a sweet reminder of Sujal and Kashish from the above show. Both the shows have stark similarities like the lead duo’s camaraderie. Do you remember, even Kashish had three sisters and never got along with Sujal? Well yes, watching Haq Se, one will indeed encounter a beautiful Déjà vu of Kahiin Toh Hoga.

The other cast is promising as well. Moreover, along with a serious plotline, the makers have given the audience light moments as well, which makes the drama quite a delightful watch.

What’s not happening?

Well, the original is an honest attempt of narrating a good story. However, it surely has its own glitches. The dubbing of the series is a put off for the starting few episodes for starters. While the storyline begins with a middle pace, it starts loosening in the further episodes. In fact, the writers are not quite successful in providing gripping cliffhangers, which is a must for any web-series. Lastly, a brilliant actress otherwise Simone Singh is good in her part however, her exceptional performances in the past have made us greedy to see more of her. And that is a disappointment.

Wind-up / Epilogue

I haven’t seen The Test Case, so baring it; Haq Se is one of the best products coming from ALT Balaji’s kitty. It isn’t something exceptional but surely a work that needs to be appreciated. Manorama Productions needs to be applauded for bringing this series and is a onetime watch for sure.

Ratings

It’s 2.5 out of 5 but I will give another 0.5 for Jannat and the cinematographer. Our final verdict on the rating is 3/5.

Samsung topples Intel to become the world’s largest chipmaker

Samsung has ended Intel’s 25-year run as the world’s biggest seller of chipsets after it posted its 2017 end of year financials.

The Korean tech giant’s chipset division — which has long been its biggest hitter — grossed total revenue of $69 billion in 2017, eclipsing the $62.8 billion Intel reported for last year. That was a record year for Intel — and an annual increase of six percent — but it wasn’t enough to stop Samsung from knocking it from the top spot, which Bloomberg reports it had occupied since 1992.

The writing was on the wall last year when Samsung beat Intel on a quarterly basis, but now it has held out for an annual win.

The change of position highlights Samsung’s focus on mobile, and in particular memory chips which are an essential part of smartphones. Intel’s chips may be in 90 percent of the world’s computers, but it missed the mobile boom and is playing catch-up.

Overall, Samsung’s entire business reported full-year profit of KRW 53.65 trillion ($50.7 billion) on revenue of KRW 239.58 trillion, $225 billion. For the final quarter of 2017, revenue was KRW 65.98 trillion ($62 billion) with KRW 15.15 trillion ($14 billion) in operating profit.

That’s a higher profit but slightly lower revenue than the previous quarter. The company’s mobile business actually saw its take-home drop by 3.2 percent year-on-year during Q4.

Looking ahead to 2018, Samsung said it intends to increase its chipset focus on cloud services, AI and automotive. On the smartphone front, where its name is best known among consumers, the company said it plans to adopt “cutting-edge technologies” like foldable displays. Samsung said also that it would continue to develop its smart services with a focus on its Bixby assistant and upcoming 5G technologies.

CAD schematics highlight the miniscule design changes for the Galaxy S9

The Galaxy S9 will be a generation for refinement rather than revolution. The exterior design of the new phones has barely changed – comparing CAD schematics for both makes it plain to see.

For the most part, the S9 phones – both the small one and the Galaxy S9+ – will be differ by fractions of a millimeter compared to the S8 generation. The biggest change seems to be that the S9+ model will be 1.7mm shorter than its predecessor (we’ve included a table with dimensions at the bottom). The screen position, even the thickness of the earpiece have been nudged ever so slightly.

There will be one major change, however, a change for the better. The fingerprint reader on both phones is now positioned below the camera (much easier to reach) and, of course, the Galaxy S9+ will have a dual camera.

Despite no apparent change in the sensor array above the screen, the Galaxy S9 will reportedly have IntelligentScan – a combination of facial and iris scanning. It remains to be seen if this feature is mostly software-based or if there’s new hardware behind the scenes.

(in mm) Height Width Thickness
Galaxy S8 148.9 68.1 8.0
Galaxy S9 147.6 68.7 8.4
Galaxy S8+ 159.5 73.4 8.1
Galaxy S9+ 157.7 73.8 8.5

Vivek Agnihotri tweets and ask Swara to get raped during a Twitter war between them

Padmaavat was initially titled as Padmavati and was decided to release on December 1, 2017. But due to continuous opposition by Karni Sena and ban by various state governments, the movie was shifted to January 25 and was named as Padmaavat. The movie has now been released.

But after the release Bollywood talented actress, Swara Bhaskar called director Sanjay Leela Bhansali for the glorification of sati and jauhar in his film, Padmaavat, in an open letter published in The Wire on Saturday. She took offence to the film’s finale in which Rani Padmavati commits herself to fire to protect her honour. Here are the points she raised:

Women have the right to live, despite being raped sir.Women have the right to live, despite the death of their husbands, male protectors, owners, controllers of their sexuality.. whatever you understand the men to be.

Women have the right to live — independent of whether men are living or not.

Women have the right to live. Period.

Women are not only walking talking vaginas.

Yes, women have vaginas, but they have more to them as well. So their whole life need not be focused on the vagina, and controlling it, protecting it, maintaining it’s purity. (Maybe in the 13th century that was the case, but in the 21st century we do not need to subscribe to these limiting ideas. We certainly do not need to glorify them. )

It would be nice if the vaginas are respected; but in the unfortunate case that they are not, a woman can continue to live. She need not be punished with death, because another person disrespected her vagina without her consent.

There is life outside the vagina, and so there can be life after rape. (I know I repeat, but this point can never be stressed enough.)

She appreciated that the movie is historical in nature in Bhansali’s defense. But she also wrote, “The context of your film is India in the 21st century; where five years ago, a girl was gang-raped brutally in the country’s capital inside a moving bus,”.

But thsi letter from Swara Bhaskar and one who is consistently battling with her is Vivek Agnihotri.

Here is the tweet war:

First tweet by Swara and the article in the tweet holds the letter she wrote to SLB.

Let see what happens next.

Hospitals Turn To Tech To Shut Down Big Pharma

High prices and stock shortages prompt hospitals to make their own drugs.

In the US, it costs big money to avoid dying, especially if you’re counting on help from the pharmaceutical industry to keep your body going. While this has been a long-time problem, things have only escalated in recent years when companies bought up patents to drugs and jacked the price to ridiculous levels. Take the case of “Pharma Bro” Martin Shrkeli’s company Turing Pharmaceuticals: the hedge fund manager turned convicted felon became notorious for his “slap that look off your face” smug expression when he bought the patent to a life-saving drug given then hiked the price per pill by more than 5,000%.

Shortly after Turing’s poor decision-making skills went on display, a compounding pharmacy named Imprimis made a welcome announcement: they can legally produce the pill for $1.50 each, and would willingly ship it to anyone with a valid prescription.

To the rescue

This isn’t the first time a compounding pharmacy (one that actually produces the medication by combining the active, necessary ingredients) has saved the day from corporate greed; it’s not even the first time this particular compounding pharmacy saved a dying public from that specific pharmaceutical company. But it just might have sparked a new wave of medical activism.

Taking a stand

Now, four major US hospital networks have announced that they will begin “crafting” certain medications on-site, avoiding the pharmaceutical companies who continue to engage in price gouging and artificial shortages to drive up their stock value. However, the hospital network faces a whole new greed-driven threat: the manufacturers of generic counterparts to high-dollar medications. These smaller pharmaceuticals could block the hospitals from producing their own compounded generic medications, so the network of facilities is keeping quiet for now about what drugs it will be able to produce in-house.

450 hopsitals across US

This large-scale effort, which includes approximately 450 hospitals across the country and could eventually lead to hospitals buying their drugs from other hospitals rather than the drug manufacturers, will rely on basic “recipe”-driven manufacturing rather than the close-to-the-vest nature of formulas created in pharmaceutical labs. Anything that can increase accessibility to desperately needed medications while saving patients, insurers, and medical facilities money will hopefully put an end to the price gouging of the ill and injured.

SoftBank buys into Line’s mobile service in Japan

SoftBank is partnering up with messaging app Line to help develop its Line Mobile telecom service.

Line announced that it has agreed to allow SoftBank to take a 51 percent in the business via an issuance of new shares. The deal is expected to close by March.

From the documents, its mobile business is valued at around $15 million (1.7 billion JPY) but a company spokesperson told TechCrunch that discussions remain ongoing around the valuation for SoftBank’s investment — in other words: it could be higher. The firm will, however, take a 51 percent stake, the spokesperson confirmed.

It’s certainly an odd relationship given that SoftBank is first and foremost a telecom company itself. This alliance may be a case of the company hedging its bets with a younger, more trendy brand. The market for MVNOs has boomed in Japan after the government relaxed regulations around handsets in early 2017. Rakuten’s MVNO claims to be Japan’s top MVNO with 1.4 million customers. Line does not reveal figures for its service.

Line Mobile’s premise in Japan is simplicity. The service claims to be easy to use, and it allows unlimited data for Line services and prominent social media sites like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Line also launched a mobile service in Thailand, one of its major markets, through a partnership with Telenor’s DTAC operator unit.

It’s been a busy day for Line. In addition to its latest earnings report, the company announced plans to add crypto trading and loans/insurance services to its chat app.

The company, which is listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange and on the New York Stock Exchange, said it made a profit of 8.078 billion JPY (approximately $75 million) on total revenue of 167.147 billion JPY, $1.5 billion, in 2017. Those figures are up 19.4 percent and 18.8 percent, respectively.

Line said the number of monthly active users in Japan, Indonesia, Taiwan and Thailand — its four largest markets — stands at 167.5 million combined. That’s up just one million year-on-year and down slightly on 168 million in the quarter previous. The company doesn’t provide a figure for all users worldwide.

Rohit Suchanti’s costume mishap on Rishta Likhenge Hum Naya

Mumbai, 31 January 2018: Rohit Suchanti, who is looking dapper in various traditional attires in Sony TV‘s  Rishta Likhenge Hum Naya (Shashi Sumeet Productions), is currently busy with the preparations for Diya’s wedding. Leaving no space for mishaps, Rohit who plays Ratan is ensuring that Diya has the best wedding experience.

The recent episode saw Ratan shake his legs and give a brilliant performance at the sangeet, which is one of the most anticipated event at every wedding. The sangeet involved a lot of peppy dance numbers and every one was seen grooving in the celebrations.

While shooting this particular sequence, Rohit, who was in an energetic demeanor while performing didn’t realize that his pant button gave away. The actor continued shooting until someone informed him about the same. Not embarrassed with the occurrence, he continued shooting, gave his shot and then got the button stitched back again.

When contacted Rohit Suchanti, he says, “It was indeed a funny incident where I honestly didn’t realize that the button came off while shooting. I completed the shot and then my dress man came running to me to inform the same. I was obviously frozen for a second and my peers even had a good laugh. But, I brushed it off, got it stitched and started shooting again. It was comical.”

Samsung Q4 report: strong high-end smartphone sales, decline in the low end

Samsung posted its Q4 report, showing $61.8 billion earnings and an operating profit of $11.49 billion. That’s a 24% and 73% respective increase over last year’s Q4.

The positive results are spearheaded by profitable display and semiconductor businesses as well as growing high-end smartphone sales. That higher demand for Samsung’s top-tier smartphones was able to offset slowing lower-end phone sales, although Samsung needed to increase its marketing cost to promote said top-tier phones.

Samsung’s display business was lifted in the final quarter of 2017 thanks to increased demand for high-end OLED panels.

The semiconductor business saw increased sales compared to 2016 mostly thanks to good memory chip sales.

Samsung expects the Galaxy S9 to sell even better than the Galaxy S8 did.

Honor announces the first developers to receive the Honor View 10

The Honor Open Source Program was announced earlier this month and kicked off with the Honor View 10. Honor promised timely kernel source releases and API access to the AI capabilities of the Kirin system-on-chip, and it reached out to the huge community of talented developers on XDA, selecting the first crop of users who’d receive an Honor View 10 for testing and development purposes.

On Tuesday, as promised, Honor announced the first developers who will be receiving Honor View 10 units. The kernel sources aren’t available yet, but will be released in the next week or two (for the EU model) once Honor finishes working on them and provides proper translations. Keep in mind that this is only the first batch of developers, and that more will be announced over time.

Developers who’ll be receiving an Honor View 10

luk1337 and luca020400

You might not have heard of XDA Recognized Developer luk1337 and XDA Recognized Developer luca020400, but they’ve been working on bringing LineageOS to lesser-known devices such as the Lenovo Moto G (2014), ASUS ZenFone 2, Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 WiFi (2016), and others. Supporting such a huge number of devices shows dedication and a high level of workmanship, and their recognition from Honor is absolutely warranted.

topjohnwu

XDA Recognized Developer and Recognized Contributor topjohnwu needs no introduction. He’s the father of Magisk, the systemless root solution that’s been circumventing SafetyNet for years now. His work has enabled people to play games like Pokémon Go and use apps like Android Pay without having to sacrifice root access, and his award from Honor is well deserved.

franciscofranco

Recognized Developer franciscofranco, another name which doesn’t need explaining, develops a kernel — Franco Kernel — that’s available across a vast and growing list of devices. With an ever-expanding Android development résumé and passion for the community, it’s no surprise that he’ll be receiving an Honor View 10.

rovo89

The developer of Xposed, XDA Senior Recognized Developer rovo89, only recently announced a new version of Xposed for Android Oreo, and he’s occasionally run into issues with third-party OEM skins such as Huawei’s Emotion UI (EMUI). As a result, he’ll be receiving an Honor View 10 to ensure that Xposed is fully compatible with Honor devices and EMUI going forward.

oldDroid

XDA Recognized Developer oldDroid is a member of Team OpenKirin, which has worked to port multiple ROMs such as AOSPA and LineageOS to Honor and Huawei devices like the Huawei P9 Lite, Honor 8, and Honor 9. He joins the list of talented developers who will be receiving an Honor View 10.

phhusson

It’d be a tragedy if XDA Senior Member phhusson, one the first developers to realize the promise of Project Treble, did not receive the Project Treble-compatible Honor View 10. He was the first to get a unified AOSP system image booting across multiple Project Treble-supported devices, and with a new View 10 in hand, he’ll be able to squash the last few remaining bugs.

Myself5

CarbonROM developer and XDA Recognised Developer Myself5 has had a hand in bringing CarbonROM to many different devices. Now that he’s receiving an Honor View 10, chances are good it’ll join the list of supported phones.

Dees_troy

XDA Senior Recognised Developer Dees_troy, the lead developer of TWRP, will be receiving an Honor View 10 in order to help bring his much loved and ever-popular Team Win Recovery Project to the device. It’s only fitting — without TWRP, much of the custom ROM development on XDA wouldn’t be possible, or at the very least much more challenging.

Priyanka Chandel unhappy with her character progression in &tv’s Meri Hanikarak Biwi

Mumbai, 30 Jnauary 2018: The cast and the concept both walk hand in hand for a show to become successful, but it seems that &tv’s shows are not reaching the set mark and are facing a downfall in TRPs and audience review. The much-hyped Meri Hanikarak Biwi that was launched on &tv seems to have lost its storyline and the casts seems unhappy with the same.

A Full House Media Production, Meri Hanikarak Biwi, based on a storyline around vasectomy – an out-of–the-box concept, is facing issues with the cast as the parallel lead playing Roshni seems displeased with the way her role is progressing.

A little flying birdie whispered in our ears and shared that MTV Splistvilla 6 fame Priyanka Chandel who is playing the role of Roshni in the show is not happy with the way her role is shaping up.

TellyChakkar got in touch with this beauty to which she shares, “I was cast in for a parallel lead and the storyline in the beginning was great but now the story is somehow going haywire.” The actress further adds, “The briefing that was given to me and what we are shooting now seems like a world apart and I am somehow not liking the character.”

Does that mean that the makers will have to change the storyline to get better reviews from the audience and bring more exciting twists in Priyanka Chandel’s role or will the actor be quitting the show soon?

Watch out this space for more exciting developments in the telly world!

Appeals court rules that Tinder’s pricing violates age discrimination laws

A California appeals court has sided with Allan Candelore, a man suing Tinder over the pricing for its premium service, Tinder Plus.

Specifically, Candelore and his lawyers argued that by charging $9.99 per month if a user is under 30, versus $19.99 per month if you’re 30 or older, Tinder is discriminating based on age, in violation of the Unruh Civil Rights Act and the Unfair Competition Law (those are both California laws).

Tinder co-founder Sean Rad defended the pricing at TechCrunch’s Disrupt conference back in 2015 by saying, “Our intent is to provide a discount for our younger users.” Apparently a lower court agreed with Tinder’s reasoning, particularly the argument that younger users have less money to spend.

However, the appeals court came to a different conclusion:

No matter what Tinder’s market research may have shown about the younger users’ relative income and willingness to pay for the service, as a group, as compared to the older cohort, some individuals will not fit the mold. Some older consumers will be “more budget constrained” and less willing to pay than some in the younger group. We conclude the discriminatory pricing model, as alleged, violates the Unruh Act and the UCL to the extent it employs an arbitrary, class-based, generalization about older users’ incomes as a basis for charging them more than younger users. Because nothing in the complaint suggests there is a strong public policy that justifies the alleged discriminatory pricing, the trial court erred in sustaining the demurrer. Accordingly, we swipe left, and reverse.

(Yes, that’s a real quote from the ruling.)

We’ve reached out to Tinder for comment and will update if we hear back.
