First look at the Lenovo Phab 2 Pro [Video]
When Lenovo coined the ‘Phab’ branding for its more recent lineup of smartphones, it didn’t intend to use the name in vain. With that said, the Lenovo Phab 2 Pro is no exception. At 6.4 inches, it’s quite large. But that’s not what sets it aside from other phablets.
The Phab 2 Pro is the first commercially available smartphone to feature Google’s Tango technology. Simply put, Tango’s array of camera sensors is able to detect the phone’s position in 3D without needing GPS. It uses a depth sensor, IR camera (in conjunction with an IR emitter), and a standard 16MP camera.
This technology has many potential applications, like indoor navigation, playing games, measuring a DIY project, or even seeing how that new couch will look in your apartment.
The price point might be arguable for some at $499 as the device does feature a Snapdragon 652: not exactly the fastest CPU of the year. Still, the 652 is a capable CPU, comparable to the Snapdragon 80X. Likewise, the price is quite reasonable for those interested in buying into the platform.
