Soon OpenSignal will proposes methodology for examining mobile network experience
Telecom analytics and solutions provider OpenSignal has introduced a methodology to examine the mobile network experience where it has recommended to first take an average of each individual user’s tests during the sample period and then weigh those averages equally in the overall analysis.
OpenSignal suggested that depending on whether equal weight is placed on individual speed tests, or on individual users, the analysis can yield vastly different results.
It further said that the results are based on the tests conducted by some very active users and therefore the methodology takes only that bunch into consideration.
OpenSignal has introduced this methodology in the wake of the ongoing issue of Ookla’s speed test declaring Bharti Airtel as the leader.
Two recent reports released in India, that of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) and that of Ookla, have come to significantly different conclusions resulting public spat between Airtel and Reliance Jio.
The company said that it cannot comment on the TRAI or Ookla’s methodology but would want to propose the best practice for consideration by the various stakeholders in the Indian mobile ecosystem.
OpenSignal will also soon publish its first in depth “State of Mobile Networks: India” report that will provide a detailed analysis of the mobile networks in India and settle the debate on network speeds in India, the solutions provider said.
