Alleged Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact Renders Leak

Sony’s Compact line of Xperia devices do what virtually all other Android OEMs fail to do – put high-end flagship specs into a smartphone with a display that is less than 5 inches in its diagonal. The company has been doing this for years and it’s garnered them a dedicated customer base because of it. However, things were a bit different when they launched the Xperia X Compact last year as they only put the Snapdragon 650 SoC in it. It looks like they’re going back to their own habits again as the upcoming Xperia XZ1 Compact is rumored to be another high-end device.

The Xperia XZ1 series from Sony isn’t something that we’ve heard much about. This is interesting because the X Compact was released in September of last year while the Z5 Compact was released in October of 2015. We’ve been hearing about other new smartphones, such as the Galaxy Note 8, LG V30, Moto X4 and the Pixel 2, for months. For the most part though, the new Xperia XZ1 series from Sony has been able to fly under the radar.

That changed this week when we learned about both the Xperia XZ1 and the Xperia XZ1 Compact from Roland Quandt. He has been accurate in the past with the leaks he’s decided to publish so we don’t have any reason to think this new leak will be any different. Yesterday, we got a look at the Xperia XZ1 and some information about the hardware specifications for both the XZ1 and the XZ1 Compact. Today, some alleged renders of the XZ1 Compact has been revealed and while it looks similar to the ones we saw yesterday, there are some subtle differences.

As far as pricing and specs are concerned, the XZ1 Compact is said to cost around $500 and have a 4.6″ 1080p display with 4GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage and a 2,800mAh capacity battery. Both the front and sides look virtually identical (other than different sizes for the camera and sensor cutouts), and the back has some slight differences as well. The NFC logo has been moved from the flash cutout to where most rear fingerprint sensors lay.
