New Gear Fit 2 Pro and Gear VR Rumored to be Launched on August 23rd
August 23rd will be a big day for Samsung as the company has been scheduled to launch their H2 flagship, the Galaxy Note 8. We’ve heard a lot about the device so far with leaked renders and a list of specs as well. Samsung isn’t known to only have one big announcement when a device is launched though. Sometimes it’s additional hardware, other times it’s new software features. So it makes sense that a new rumor claims the South Korean conglomerate is readying the launch of a new Gear Fit 2 Pro and Gear VR headset.
This information comes to us from none other than the prolific mobile leaker, Evan Blass over at VentureBeat. The rumor starts off by showing us what is said to be a new wearable from Samsung, and also informs us that the company is about to launch the a new Gear VR as well. This will be the third fitness tracker from the company and is said to be outfitted what is being called 5 ATM water resistance. ATM levels are different than the typical IP certification ratings that most smartphone owners are used to.
Each ATM is about the equivalent of 10 meters (33 feet) of static water pressure, so this 5 ATM smartwatch should be able to withstand pressures equivalent to a depth of 50 meters (or 164 feet). Another advertised feature of the Gear Fit 2 Pro is support for offline Spotify playback, and we’re told that it does include a GPS sensor as well. The last bit of information here is that the fitness smartwatch will have a “watch-style” clasp, unlike the snap clasp of the Gear Fit 2.
This will make the device more secure on your wrist so you shouldn’t have any fear of it falling off during intensive workouts. The Gear Fit 2 Pro is said to be compatible with both iOS and Android and it will come with a year of Under Armour’s premium tier of digital services. Sadly, there isn’t any additional details about the new Gear VR headset other than it being “backwards-compatible.”
