Stranger Things: The Game is out on Android
Few of us expected the stunning success of the first season of Stranger Things, the Netflix series that brought back the style of Spielberg’s Amblin’ along with winks and nods to Stephen King stories and Twilight Zone motifs. Now, with the impending release of the second season at the end of this month, the Bonus XP studio has released an official game based on the series that also draws on the aesthetic resources of the 80s in an ARPG that could pass for a 16-bit classic.
The game sets you trekking around the town of Hawkings while you meet up with friends like chief of police Hopper, Mike, and even Eleven herself. Each character has a different special skill, whether it’s shooting from afar, boasting enormous physical strength, or becoming invisible to enemies. The settings, divided into rooms, are quite evocative of the dungeons in The Legend of Zelda 2D in terms of both their structure and the challenges you’ll come across.
What’s properly interesting about this game is that it’s an entirely free adventure that has no ads or in-game micropurchases of any kind. It’s simply a super high-quality promotional game that should be the envy of other hit brands.
