Ranji Trophy: Mumbai stutter after Akash Parkar's fifer
Mumbai all-rounder Akash Parkar claimed his maiden five-wicket haul in only his fourth first-class match on Saturday as he dismantled Tripura on the opening day of their must-win Ranji Trophy Group C contest at the Wankhede Stadium. Parkar's 5-32 helped Mumbai bowl out Tripura for 195. Parkar was well-supported by senior pacer Dhawal Kulkarni (3-67). Mumbai, however, stuttered in their response and scored 77-3 by stumps.

Mumbai were in trouble when Prithvi Shaw (1) and Shreyas Iyer (1) were back in the pavilion with just 18 runs on the board. Suryakumar Yadav fell for 30 with only four overs left for the day's play. However, Jay Bista was steady on 43. Kulkarni made good use of the green top dished out at the Wankhede and justified skipper Aditya Tare's decision to bowl first.
Kulkarni claimed two early wickets, dismissing opener Samrat Singha (6) and vice-captain Udiyan Bose (13). Parkar was introduced in the 12th over of the innings and struck on the fourth ball of his first over by cleaning up the other opener, Bishal Ghosh (32) with an in-swinger. He used a similar delivery to disturb Smit Patel's (18) furniture. Parkar's disciplined approach paid rich dividends as his first spell read 9-5-5-2. "My plan was to stick to a line and length and I bowled accordingly," Parkar said.
Parkar then dismissed Yashpal Singh (33), who was looking dangerous after hitting some lusty blows, and skipper Manisankar Murasingh (43 off 62 balls), who was confidently smashing Mumbai's frontline pacers Kulkarni and Shardul Thakur. Parkar wasted no time in getting his fifer as Rana Dutta (0) fell immediately after the Tripura skipper's dismissal.
There was no end to Mumbai's catching woes as they dropped five on the first day. Meanwhile, Mumbai pacer Thakur suffered an injury on his left shoulder when he tried catching Tripura's Abhijit Sarkar's at mid-off.
