Protesters Vandalise Theatre in Bihar after decision of SC on ‘Padmaavat’ release

Supreme Court on Thursday morning stayed the ban on the historical drama, Padmaavat in six states. The court has said that states must make sure that law and order is maintained and they cannot ban the film citing it as a problem. The court said that all states are constitutionally obliged to maintain law and order and prevent any untoward incident during the screening of the film across the country. During the hearing, CJI Misra said, “If we go by this (arguments levelled against films), 60 per cent of literature, even classical literature of India cannot be read.”
However, Karni Sena is not at all happy with the verdict. They are still looking forward to not let the film release. Karni Sena’s leader Lokendra Singh said, “I appeal to social organisations in the entire country: Padmavati nahi chalni chahiye. Film hall par janata curfew laga de (The movie should not run. Public should enforce a curfew at cinema halls)”.
Within just few hours of the verdict of Supreme court news came from Bihar’s Muzaffarpur that some people, who identified themselves as members of the local Karni Sena unit, vandalised a cinema hall.
On Tuesday, Karni Sena had taken out a massive rally in Rajasthan’s Dholpur in which they threatened mass immolation if the film is not banned.
“We have been protesting against the release of this film ever since we came to know of it. However, the government did not pay heed to our demands and decided to favour Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Hence, we have decided that some women will perform Jauhar on January 25. We are not afraid of death,” the head of the committee told ANI.

Another member said, “If Kamal Haasan’s film can be banned, why not Padmaavat? It is not just about changing the name; the facts have been tampered with. We have very high regard for our Rani Padmini, and we will immolate ourselves to keep her dignity intact.”
The film is slated for release on January 25.
