During the attacks that took place at Sunjuwan in Jammu on Saturday, a pregnant woman was injured by heavily armed militants on the family quarters. However, in spite of facing such a critical situation, the lady delivered a baby girl on Sunday.
An army official said that rifleman Nazir Ahmed Khan and his wife Shahzada Khan were badly injured in firing by the militants and were shifted to the military hospital in the cantonment area. The lady received gunshots on her lower back. She was immediately airlifted to the military hospital along with her husband.
Defence spokesman Lt Col Devender Anand stated, “Army doctors worked through the night to save the lives of the severely injured pregnant lady with gunshot wounds and through a Caesarean section, delivered a baby girl. Both the mother and the baby are stable.”
He further added, “The doctors had a complicated case on their hands. The lady was hit with a bullet on her hip and was critical. At the same time, the pulse of the child was going down. The doctors had to cure the gunshot wounds and at the same time save the child.”
The lady was in a critical situation and with time running out, they had to opt for c-section to deliver the baby. The couple’s premature baby weighed 2.5kg and is in good health.
The gynaecologist who operated them said, “This wasn’t a routine case. As a gynaecologist, it is always our motto that mother should come alone & go with a healthy baby in her lap. It’s a very joyful moment for my hospital & our team. Patient is really happy.”
The hospital commandment said, “Amid all other injury cases, there was a challenging case in which a lady in her advance pregnancy stage came with a gunshot wound. Am extremely happy & proud that my team took care of both & brought into this world a healthy crying female child.”
Lastly, the elated new mommy said, “I am very thankful to them for saving me and my baby.”
