Start To ‘Think Inside The Box’ With Ridhi Singhai’s Creation ‘TintBox’ Success Story

Plastic is harmful! We all know that, still we are using plastic water bottles and plastic lunch boxes since years. More dangerous! Some state governments have even banned the plastic owing to its poisonous effects like hormonal imbalances, obesity, hair fall, lead toxicity and even cancer. Now the only safe, inert and natural alternative is the glass, but then the breakage issue with the glass. So what about the unbreakable glass products that could also help to avoid the ill-effects of plastic?

30-yr old Ridhi Singhai fro Mumbai made it possible by thinking inside the box, by finding ‘TintBox’. It is the only brand in India with borosilicate glass lunch boxes and bottles. The outer protective silicone sleeve ensures they don’t break even after falling.

Ridhi, who worked in TCS as a system analyst for five years was an eco-conscious person. She was disturbed by the continuous and heavy use of plastics especially in food and water. So she started to research on alternatives.

Ridhi says, “All kinds of plastics are harmful and leach toxic chemicals into our food (which increases manifold when heated in microwave or hot food is packed in them). This causes hormonal imbalances in the human body, leading to diseases.”

Being a mother of a 5-yr old, Ridhi was concerned for her child’s health and wanted to do away with all the plastic ware in her kitchen. After throwing away all the plastic items from her kitchen, she bought a set of glass lunchboxes which broke in just 2 months. Obviously, now there was a need for unbreakable glass.

Ridhi is not from a business family background but her zeal led her to quit her job and make a healthy lunchbox and water bottle. After two and a half years of research, TintBox was launched in September 2017.

Ridhi met a renowned Australian designer who was visiting Bengaluru those days, who could shape her vision. It was only after two-and-a-half years of designing, prototyping, testing, and retesting, that they got the final TintBox lunchbox. From naming the brand and creating the brand logo to designing the bag and the website, Ridhi did not outsource anything.

Ridhi was lucky to have support from her family – both financially and emotionally. TintBox is bootstrapped, with about Rs 1.5 crore invested so far. Her father is a material science expert and has helped make perfect products. Ridhi manages branding, marketing and communications, and new product development. Her husband is a banker and expert in marketing, strategy, digital innovations, helps in building and growing channels of business.

TintBox’s products are priced between Rs 650 and Rs 2,500. Currently TintBox sells only online (through their own website and on Amazon). They have tied up with FedEx for deliveries across India.

Ridhi claims that they are already in Amazon’s ‘Choice List’ which enlists products on account of uniqueness, quality, seller feedback, and minimum or nil returns.
