Khalid Rasheed Firangi Mahli, a Lucknow-based Muslim cleric is also a member of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB). Khalid did something very sweet which is definitely applaud-worthy. He rescheduled the Friday prayers for 2nd March one hour late as Hindus celebrate Holi on this day.
He pointed out that 2018’s Lord Jagannath Yatra was rescheduled to two hours later than its decided time and taken a different route so as to not disturb Bakreid celebrations.
He has passed this order at one of the prominent mosques in Lucknow where Mahli is a Maulana.
To avoid any clashes with Holi revelers, he has appealed to the Imams (who head prayers) at different mosques to follow suit by shifting the Friday prayer timings by half to one hour so.
A popular news portal quoted saying, “In the past, there have been incidents of riots breaking out with the Holi revelers throwing colour on those going to offer namaz…we have taken this step especially keeping in mind the sensitivity in the mixed population areas.”
Mahli confirmed that Maulana Kalbe Jawwad has also shifted the prayer timings at Asfi mosque.
Revealing the understanding behaviour of three non-Muslim families, Mahli said, “During the Ramazan too, we had made an appeal to three families who had their weddings scheduled at the Ram Lila ground opposite the Idgah to postpone fireworks, DJ and music programme while the “tarabi” was performed between 7.30 PM to 10.30 PM and they obliged willingly.”
Mahli wants to spread a message of communal harmony and remove the blots of communal tension in India by shifting the prayer timings.
Well, this is a really sweet gesture and we hope more and more people follow this to ensure more peace and harmony in our country!
